History of Mardaleishvili Medical Centre

Founded in 1995, Mardaleishvili Medical Centre was established with the vision of creating Georgia’s first private oncology clinic. The initiative was led by Professor Konstantin Mardaleishvili together with George Loladze and Vladimir Khatelishvili, with the support of Professor Albert Scheller from Germany, whose expertise played an important role in training the medical team and shaping the clinic’s early development.

From the very beginning, the Centre was built on the principles of international collaboration, continuous professional development, and the introduction of modern medical practices. These values became the foundation for its future growth.

The Medical Centre began its work in two rented rooms at the National Oncology Center. As patient demand increased, the clinic expanded rapidly and, in 1996, became a Georgian-German Specialized Clinic, occupying an entire floor of the Cancer Center. This early expansion reflected both the growing trust of patients and the Centre’s commitment to broadening access to specialized medical care.

Over the following decade, the clinic evolved from a specialized oncology facility into a multidisciplinary medical centre. New departments were established in neurology, ophthalmology, gynecology, mammology, endocrinology, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, thoracic and abdominal surgery, and cell therapy, enabling patients to receive comprehensive care within a single institution.

As its medical services continued to grow, so did the need for a modern clinical environment. In 2009, Mardaleishvili Medical Centre moved into its own purpose-built facility, designed in accordance with contemporary healthcare standards. The new building significantly expanded the Centre’s capabilities, providing advanced infrastructure for diagnostics, surgery, and regenerative medicine.

Alongside the expansion of its facilities, the Centre continued to invest in its people. Physicians regularly participated in professional training and internships at leading medical institutions across Europe and the United States, while many specialists pursued scientific research and earned advanced academic degrees. This commitment to education helped ensure that new knowledge and international experience became part of everyday clinical practice.

The Centre’s continued development also led to a growing focus on regenerative medicine. By establishing its own stem cell and cord blood bank and integrating cellular technologies into clinical practice, Mardaleishvili Medical Centre expanded the range of treatment options available to patients and strengthened its position in this rapidly evolving field.
